Why is Positive Reinforcement Dog Training Important?

Why Choose Toko Dogs for Positive Reinforcement Training

At Toko Dogs, we believe in nurturing a dog’s natural enthusiasm through rewards like treats, praise, and play. Our experienced trainers will guide you in using positive techniques to improve communication, prevent unwanted behaviors, enhance social skills, and build the foundation for a trusting and effective relationship with your dog.

Our Positive Reinforcement Includes:

  • Tailored, expert-led training sessions
  • Focus on positive reinforcement to build behaviors and reinforce commands
  • Teach owners how to reward and encourage good behavior

Our Approach

Our sessions start with building engagement and focus through play, praise, and treats. Once our dog is motivated to play with us, take treats, and enjoys receiving praise, we will use these motivators to build positive behaviors and obedience commands. We introduce commands in a distraction-free environment and slowly add real-world challenges to ensure your dog learns to respond positively and consistently.
If your dog faces challenges like distractions or reactivity, we guide you on gentle, positive methods to regain their focus and reinforce positive behavior.

PROGRAM DETAILS

What to Expect

Positive Reinforcement-based sessions can focus on either obedience commands or behavioral problems. Training sessions that focus on obedience commands are typically structured into six stages:

1.Shape the behavior through engagement and rewards

2.Pair the behavior with a verbal command and/or gesture

3.Reinforce the pairing with praise and treats

4.Develop your dog’s natural drivers to perform

5.Gradually add distractions

6.Practice in varied environments

7.Practice daily

Outcome

After completing our sessions, you will know how to properly motivate your dog and reinforce positive behaviors. Your dog will also clearly understand what is expected of them. Our positive reinforcement-based training empowers you with techniques to keep your dog’s performance consistent in public and challenging environments. You’ll also have access to our in-person check-ins, where you can ask questions and work on fun training games, behavior issues, and socialization. After completing three or more of our positive reinforcement-based sessions, Toko Dogs will provide ongoingSupport through phone and email for a full year.

Duration

Each session lasts 1-1.5 hours. With positive reinforcement-based training, developing dependable obedience commands and modifying moderate and severe behaviors may take months or years. However, many owners will have learned the necessary techniques and strategies to achieve these changes in 5-10 sessions and can achieve these results in combination with the ongoing 12 months of support.

about about

FAQ

Will my dog be completely trained after taking Positive Reinforcement classes?

icon
No dog is “completely trained” after any training. All behaviors and commands we develop during training must be maintained and practiced over the long term. Like anything we do as people, practice makes progress; this applies to your dog as well. After completing our training sessions, your dog will understand key commands, understand which behaviors lead to rewards and positive outcomes, and you’ll have the skills to continue strengthening their behavior over time.

What is the cost of a Positive Reinforcement Training in San Diego?

icon
Our positive reinforcement-based training sessions are $250 per session. We can provide estimates of how many sessions may be necessary to achieve your desired results once we meet you, your dog(s), and gain an understanding of your goals. After completing three or more private training sessions, Toko Dogs will provide 12 months of ongoing support.
